The drop in temperatures is not so bad when you prepare a warm pumpkin soup. We enjoyed the preparation, the aromas, and finally the tasting of this delicious and healthy dish. We are happy and proud that our new small library includes, among other things, the picture book “Pumpkin Soup”, which helped further enrich today’s activity and atmosphere.

This month, we marked the Day of Thanksgiving for the Fruits of the Earth, which is traditionally celebrated in October as part of Bread Days and Thanksgiving and is connected to World Food Day on October 16.

The best way to express gratitude for the fruits of the earth is by preparing a juicy apple and poppy seed cake, so we gave thanks, enjoyed a sweet treat, and learned how to prepare another delicious dessert.

Cooking activities—our popular “Kuheraj”—are part of the RUKE program, funded by the Ministry of Labour, Pension System, Family, and Social Policy.

“One day I read a book and my whole life changed.” These are the words of one of the most famous Turkish writers, Orhan Pamuk. We truly love various kinds of literary content. In our newly arranged library, we carry out reading activities, get to know different types of literature, and learn proper library behavior—how to borrow and return books, and how and why to take care of them. Our wooden little library house, located in the park in front of the entrance to OZANA, is frequently visited by neighbors as well as passers-by. Some people borrow books, while others bring and leave books for others to read. We also visited the Marina Držić Library, where we learned that the Month of the Croatian Book is celebrated from October 15 to November 15. At the library, we were gifted books for our small library—thank you from the bottom of our hearts! We also held our first clay bookmark-making workshop at the library. The librarians introduced preschool children to the world of imagination and books by telling stories, after which we held a clay modeling workshop. We truly enjoyed creating together.

Thank you to the children, educators, and librarians!

If you would like to donate a book, it will be very welcome here.

The project “Šlamprla Reads a Book and Models Clay” is a new project funded in the field of social and humanitarian significance to improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities, from the City of Zagreb Budget for 2025.

At the Voltino Library, we held another felting workshop as part of the project “If Trees Could Walk.” During the workshop, where beautiful decorations were made from felted wool, students from Voltino Primary School joined us. Our users acted as mentors and teachers, skillfully guiding them through the process of working with unspun wool. With this workshop, we brought to an end a year-long collaboration and socializing at the Voltino Library. Thank you to Voltino Library and Voltino Primary School for the cooperation and wonderful time spent together.

October also marked our final meeting with Ms. Sabina Gvozdić, a professional storyteller. Once again, we enjoyed her vivid storytelling of works by Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić, also as part of the project “If Trees Could Walk.” In our space, we exhibited some of the handmade items created during the project, which continue to inspire admiration among us and our occasional visitors.

The project “If Trees Could Walk” is funded by the Ministry of Science, Education, and Youth.

We continue an exceptionally positive and successful collaboration with FKS. There is growing interest in the Photography Course led by Mr. Bruno. After visiting an exhibition of works created during previous photography courses, we concluded that we all want to be both behind and in front of the camera.

Despite an increasingly dynamic pace, we also managed to hold the first workshop of relaxing, anti-stress activities using sound therapy instruments for the parents/guardians of our users. The use of sound therapy instruments enables deep relaxation, as sound addresses our innate sense of trust, releases tension, facilitates letting go, frees us from negative patterns, promotes health through harmonious and calming sounds, supports and enhances body awareness, enables access to and use of personal resources, and positively contributes to strengthening self-confidence.

We also continued our cooperation with the Croatian Institute of Public Health (NZJZ) and held the first lecture for parents and guardians on the topic of mental health. Thank you to Ms. Marija Škes for the insightful lecture.

The activities carried out are part of the project “Mental Health Matters,” funded through programs and projects of associations in the field of social and humanitarian significance from the City of Zagreb Budget for 2025.

The last days of October provided ideal weather for preparing garden beds, where we planted onions and sowed lettuce, while also having a great time. We are already looking forward to the harvest and preparing simple meals from what we grow. Garden activities are part of the three-year RUKE program, funded by the Ministry of Labour, Pension System, Family, and Social Policy.

This year as well, we supported the initiative “72 Hours Without Compromise” and organized two workshops in our space titled “Wool and I—Two Friends” and “Clove by Clove, an Orange.” We mutually enjoyed a pleasant and cheerful atmosphere and created new handmade items together. Thank you to the volunteers of 72 Hours Without Compromise for their dedicated work and wonderful companionship. See you again!
